Do you accept insurance?

No. We do not accept or bill any private insurance.

Why are you out-of-network?

The private insurance industry in the United States is deeply flawed, prompting many therapists to opt out of accepting insurance. Here are some reasons that therapists elect to not work directly with insurance companies:

  • Insurance companies sometimes fail to reimburse claims in a timely manner, if at all.

  • Your therapist can change with your insurance plan. If you switch jobs or your insurance plan changes, you may have to end the relationship you have established with your in-network therapist to start over again with a different therapist.

  • You have less control of the focus and frequency of your sessions. With in-network care, insurance companies often control how long and how frequently you can see your therapist. If you are not in crisis, your insurer may deny further sessions you want or need to solidify the gains you have made, work through current stressors, or promote a more full and rewarding life.

  • Insurance companies reimburse therapists, particularly masters-level therapists, at a rate that implies how little they value mental health and its treatment. These low reimbursement rates require therapists to work long hours, in an emotionally and cognitively difficult job, leaving little in their tank to give to their clients and their own families. At Market Street Psychotherapy, we value and respect the labor and lives of our therapist and so choose to not work insurance companies that don’t.

Can I get reimbursed by my insurance even if you’re out-of-network?

Yes. While we do not accept or bill any private insurance, our services are often covered as part of the "out-of-network" benefits provided by healthcare plans.

Do I have out-of-network coverage?

Most PPO plans provide out-of-network benefits, but we recommend that you speak with your insurance company to confirm. Here are some questions to ask:

  • Does my plan provide out-of-network benefits for outpatient psychotherapy or psychiatry?

  • Do I have an out-of-network deductible?

  • How much of my deductible have I used this year?

  • What is the allowable amount for psychotherapy or medication management?

  • What percentage of the allowable amount does my plan reimburse?

How do I use my out-of-network benefits to get reimbursed?

If you decide to seek reimbursement from your insurance company, we will provide you with a detailed invoice (insurance companies call these a "superbill") that will make this process simple and straightforward.

It usually only takes a couple of minutes to submit a claim and your insurance company's claims person can walk you through what steps to take if you have any questions.

Typically, PPOs provide out-of-network coverage in a phased or stepwise manner. In most cases, within about 20 sessions, the reimbursement is such that your out-of-pocket cost is only slightly higher than would be your in-network copay.

It is a good idea to call your insurance company if you have any questions about your insurance plan. The number for your insurance company should be listed on your insurance card.

What procedure (CPT) codes do you use?

Our psychiatrists use the following procedure codes:

  • Intake session - 90792

  • Medication management session - 99213 + 90836

  • Therapy session - 99212 + 90836

Out therapists use the following procedure codes:

  • Intake session - 90791

  • Therapy session - 90837

How often will I meet with my therapist?

Market Street Psychotherapy advocates that you meet with your therapist once per week, at least at the beginning. A weekly cadence helps to foster a strong therapeutic relationship and provides enough space to explore and begin to understand your complex mind. In some situations, individuals choose to meet with their therapists multiple times per week for either a short amount of time (to help get through a crisis) or on an ongoing basis (to delve deeper into their inner world in the hopes of making more fundamental change).

How long does therapy take?

The length of treatment depends on your goals. Your work with your therapist is unique to you. Most people begin to feel better in the first 2-3 months of therapy. Some individuals opt to stop when they feel that relief. Others choose to continue working with their therapist past that point, delving into deeper issues with the intention of making relapse less likely and more substantially transforming the patterns that detract from the enjoyment and meaning in their lives.

Can I see a therapist and a psychiatrist?

Yes. If you or your therapist think that you would benefit from an evaluation for medication, you can see a psychiatrist. Likewise, if you work with a psychiatrist and think that therapy would be helpful, you can see a therapist. One advantage of Market Street Psychotherapy is that we offer both services in one location. This makes starting with a psychiatrist or therapist much easier and more convenient. It also means that your therapist and psychiatrist will work in close collaboration to optimize your care.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes, we offer telehealth via secure video and phone.

Can I attend a telehealth appointment if I’m outside of Washington?

No. You must be in Washington at the time of your appointment. Healthcare providers are licensed at the state level so cannot see individuals not physically located in that state. You are responsible for ensuring that you are physically located in Washington State at the time of your appointment.
